Churchill looks out the airlock porthole. "They're not attaching the gangplank! I'll have to climb down and do it myself." He appears to be ready to open the airlock, but he awaits a command.

Sure enough, the gangplank is not connected. You can see Churchill on the tarmack struggling to move it toward the Roykan. There are people in sight. Surely, they noticed the landing, but they are making no effort to help.

With a huff and a puff, the engineer keeps pushing on the gangplank. He steps back, out of breath. An idea dawns on him, and he looks up under the wheeled structure. After hitting a switch, the contraption makes a short whizzing noise, and suddenly becomes a lot easier to push.

"I forgot to turn on the pneumatics," Churchill says with a blush.

The gangplank is now close enough to step onto. It's not lined up perfectly, since you've got an engineer doing the work. You just have to be careful stepping onto it.

"Pirates," Pete says quietly to the rest of the Roykan crew. "Yeah, I've seen these guys before. You see that symbol most of them have on their sleeve. That's a pirate symbol."
He motions to Churchill to climb back up to the ship.
"Now, I'm not saying they've got any plans for us in particular, but I'm just letting you know."
He points across the bay. "And look over there. Some of them are repainting those ships. Maybe Les Ralon's ship is already here."
Once he attracts Churchill's attention, he just lets him know and tells him to continue about his business.
"They might even think that we're some of their mates. That's probably why we got to land."

"Yeah, they think we're the pirates that we killed. Figured that by the way they handle their communications. They were expected to take the Roykan without any problems. Well, surprise." Mike makes sure to say that veeeery quietly so only his teammates can hear. "Bass, we're going to have to mistreat you 'till we split, but know that'll be the only way we'll survive here. Promise it won't be too bad." He nods to Pete, "I can imagine you can fake being a pirate more than I, so you be in charge."

He looks to Churchill, "What are you going to need to repair the ship? And fuel the ship? You should probably stay with her until we figure out what we're going to do here."

Churchill takes a mental inventory. "I should have all the equipment that I need. Without help, it will take a day, or maybe two. If somebody would help, I could get it done quicker. We need to work on the hull, too. I need some plating and a magnetic sealer. They should have a sealer for rent at any decent port. That might take a few hours with help, or a day without help."

Churchill frowns. He continues, "We really need fuel, though. We can't go anywhere without some fuel."

He looks down at the tarmack. He says, "I'm afraid to take my tools and equipment down there! I don't trust those people..."

Pirates do control ports in the asteroid belt. They generally don't take over existing ports, but rather they build their own. They try to build them close to shipping lanes, but far enough away to hide. By that logic, this seems to be a perfect place for a pirate spaceport: It's close to Ceres, but far enough away for comfort.

Pirates ports generally are not well-run. They have the proper equipment because they can steal it. Even though these ports are pirate-run, the merchants, vendors, and service providers are generally on the level to customers. A hotel is still a hotel, and it has to be run well to make money. A weapon seller will give you a reasonable price for a pistol, and they'll gladly give you advice and help. There's no guarantee, however, that the pistol wasn't hijacked 12 hours ago from a cargo ship.

Riolda, you see, it is a city with residents and businesses. The only difference is that there's no government ot speak of.

There are pirate ports with governments, such as the Black Brotherhood. These ports are run much better. Riolda's port is clearly not run by an organization.

(Preferably not Pete or Bass, since they're the only PCs, right? :))

There is, in fact, a stretcher on the Roykan. However, it doesn't hover. It's basically an old, wheeled stretcher. They still use wheeled stretchers sometimes, but they are considered "cheap". It seems that this rocket ship isn't well-stocked with medical equipment, and the cheap stretcher is just one example.

Brok easily and gently lifts the doctor onto the cheap stretcher.

It's not a long walk to leave the launch bay area. There are people walking about, minding their own business. The sight of a stretcher, though, does turn an eye or two in your direction.

(Note that we are in Zero-G here. So, even though the stretcher is on wheels, it takes almost no effort to push. The ground is mostly rock, with metallic walkways. So, you can walk with your magnetic boots. However, Coop's stretcher might just float away if not attended. If you leave the walkway, you'll lose your footing. You've all maneuvered in Zero-G before, but you're not experts, unless you have that skill.)

It is evident that there is no single hospital. The larger hotels have medical facilities of their own, and their prices vary. There is a reasonably-priced clinic in a nearby hotel, the Brown Hacienda. It's what your characters would think of as an average hotel, but for this port, it's first-class.

You are standing just outside the Brown Hacienda, a hotel in the port of Riolda.

Sneaky Pete studies the hotel for a moment. "It's as good as any other in the state the doc is in," he says. "I'll be right back."
Pete enters the hotel and approaches the front desk.
"I've got a crew mate who's been pretty severely beaten up in a firefight. How much for use of your medical bay," he asks the clerk.
He gets that price and checks two other hotels in the immediate vacinity.

The man behind the desk at the Brown Haicenda appears ready to summon a medical team to help. In fact, it takes some persuasion to convince him not to rush the doctor to the clinic. He seems very desperate for work. Their price for basic diagnostics and rejeuvanative therapy is 100 credits.

The hotel next door, Spaceways Inn, is a little bit run down, but it fits in around here. Now, they charge 70 credits for the same service.

The next hotel down is the Sun King. It is a fair hotel, but not as nice as the Hacienda. They charge 80 credits for basic work.

Those are the three nicest, and they're also the closest to the space port. (That's not a coincidence.)

All three hotels are chomping at the bit to get your business.

"I think that's a good plan," Pete says. With that, he goes back to the Hacienda.
Inside, he finds the desk clerk again. "I'm sorry I left in such a rush earlier," Sneaky Pete says. "You see, my friend is in such a bad condition. The problem is, we don't have more than 150 credits between us, much less a place to stay. Is there any chance you could fix up our friend and give us a place to stay for that amount? There's six of us in total, and we'd be happy to go two to a room."

Using some persuasion here! Also, I wasn't sure how much a room costs. Basically, I'm trying to get the medical service for 80 credits and the rooms at about 1/2 off, so adjust my offer as needed.

Game Master

  I'll make this happen quickly.

The rooms are normally 15 credits each. Pete doesn't feel that he has the upper hand on this deal. He does chisel the price down, but not as much as he had hoped. (He can't get both an 80-credit medical treatment and rooms at half price. That would have totalled $125 credits.)

The 150-credit deal does seem to work, though. "Alright, says the manager. "You pay up front, though." He points to the Firste Luna Bank machine on his counter. "Either use a Luna card or pay hard."

(As a note, the card that Ralon gave you has a "Firste Luna Bank Card" account on it. They're rather common.)

In an effort to prove that there's only 150 credits between the group, Sneaky Pete has everyone pay a small sum to the hotel.
Privately, he tells them he'll use the Les Ralon's card to offset their loss when they purchase other expenses.
From there, he takes Doc Coop to the medical bay and has him fixed up.

Navigation is not easy for Pete. After all, he's from Earth, where the gravity is constant.

He gets Coop down to the medical bay. At this point, Coop is beginning to regain consciousness, but he still looks horrible.

There is one doctor there, and he rises from his chair (he was watching the tri-D broadcast). "Hello! What do we have here?" The doctor reaches for his medical analyzer then extends his hand to Pete. "I'm doctor Dashe." This seems to be a completely terran physician.

(Most of the other people that you've seen here are short and stocky, typical of the asteroid belt. There are some off-worlders, though.)

Dashe says, "Let's get him into a bed. Say, room 1." He points to an empty room on the right side of the medical bay. It's not a large room by today's hospital standards. It's a little larger than the rooms in the Roykan. There's a bed, a chair, and a sink. That's it. It looks clean, though.

Dr. Dashe asks, "Have you paid for the service? If not, I expect you will. What's his name?"

(At this point, Coop moans something, but you can't understand it.)
