The pirate airlock is blasted open. Pete steps through with caution. Three people are behind him: Brok is on his heels, Coop is scanning, and Kent has just arrived on the Roykan's airlock deck, so he's a little bit behind.

Everyone can clearly see laser fire coming from the next deck up on the pirate ship! Somebody on the next deck is firing at the pirates!

(Pete makes a successful spot check. There's a BIG guy up there that just shot at a pirate.)

(The Worker missed his shot. It was hard since everybody was tumbling or crawling for cover. He can hear the footsteps of those entering, and he can see the top of Pete's head.)

At this point, the two groups are aware of each other, so we're down to a single thread. Play on...

"There's the guy. The big one." Pete yells. "He's the one who called us."
With that, he begins firing at the pirate with the least amount of cover.

Unfortunately, the pirate captain (#1) gets the drop on Pete. He hits Pete in the side with a cutlass and wounds him pretty badly (5 HP)! Pete staggers, but is able to maintain his balance.

Pete fires at a pirate (#2) that seems to have been shaken up by the ramming. Pete tags the pirate in the chops with a red beam. The pirate screams and ducks behind a crate.

The pirate captain (#1) had to stand out a little to aim at Pete. From the deck above comes a laser shot that hits him in the neck.

Brok, in the mean time, comes rushing out in front of Pete. Brok almost pushes Pete out of the way in order to protect him from the onslaught. Brok sees both the pirate captain and the pirate (#2) that Pete shot. Brok takes a wide-arcing swing at the one in front of Pete (#2) with his mono-knife. The knife cuts through the pirate's neck and continues! Brok brings the arc down on his other side at the pirate captain (#1)! This cut does not kill him, but the captain is noticably hurt.

Kent runs up behind Pete and fires at another pirate (#3) hiding behind a crate. The shot misses, but it keeps the pirate behind his cover.

The same pirate (#3) takes a shot at Brok with a small pistol. He shouts, "Get out of there, Captain!" The pistol emits a barage of needle-like shards. Brok takes one in the arm, but the damage looks minor.

The final pirate (#4) shoots up the ladder at the large figure above. It looks like it might be a good shot, but the lone figure is hiding well, and the shot hits the ceiling.

Coop, who has been totally silent, remains quiet as he moves in behind Pete. He drags Pete back behind Brok and immediately starts to tend to his wound. (Pete recovers 2 HP.)

Since Pete almost died, we'll pause there for your input.

He gasps as Coop works on him. "Is the fight all over? I hope so. I hate this stuff."
As Coop's medical skills begin to mend him, Pete studies the wound with great concern. His breathing is heavy and anxious. "Aww. Why'd it have to hit me there? I'll never be able to take my shirt off again. Why didn't Brok shoot that guy? I'm a mess. I'm a mess."
He's clearly quite shaken up by the events.

Then, he notices something in the battle. "I'd worry about that instead!" Coop points at a HUGE figure that just jumped down from above.

Coop draws his laser pistol again and carefully analyzes the situation. He pats Pete on the head and stands.

  To get this straight...

Michael tries to find cover while shooting like it's the wild west. Pete sobs in the corner, while defending. BA7347-06 uses his sword to attack a pirate.

Right. Here's the result:

Broks leads off with a slash at the Captain, but the Captain is too quick. The mono knife missed wildly.

The large Worker that jumped down from above takes aim at Pirate #4 with his sword. This shot missed, too. These pirates aren't well-armored, but they're quick.

Coop shoots the pirate captain with his laser pistol. The captain clearly didn't see this coming. The beam hits the captain in the side of the neck, and he falls to the floor. (OOC: Natural 20, then a critical hit.)

With a shout, Pirate #3 levels his sights upon Dr. Coop and fires. The volley of shards tears up Coop's clothing and wounds him badly. "Down..." calls Coop as he falls to the floor.

Kent sees this and fires almost at the same tims as Pirate #3. He hits Pirate #3 in the left side, doing a good bit of damage. The pirate clutches his side, but remains standing.

Pete, who happens to already be on the deck next to where Coop fell, drags Coop into the corner. He takes the shards from Coops body and uses Coop's own kit to clean him up quickly. Coop isn't conscious, but he's still alive. (Right now, Pete is the only one that knows this.)

Pirate #2 sticks his head out just long enough to get a shot at BA7347-06. "What are you doing?!?" screams the pirate. He hits BA7347-06 in the chest with a laser, doing some damage (7 HP).

Pirate #4 fires again at the hulking worker before him. BA7347-06 is close enough to hit the pirate's arm before he fires, causing the laser to hit the deck.

Brok jumps at Pirate #3 in retalliation for the wound. Brok cleaves the pirate neatly in two. It appears as though the pirate sees the entire thing happening, as he gives a look of grief as his top half falls to the deck.

Almost in the one fluid motion, BA7347-06 cuts Pirate #4's arm off and finishes with a mortal blow to the head.

Kent misses Pirate #2 because it's just too close to aim a laser pistol very well. (Rolled a 1.) He fires again, and lands a very good blow on the pirate.

Pete manages to take a shot at #2, but has similar problems, since he's on the ground. Pete stands up, though he's still in a defensive posture. Like Kent, Pete lands one on Pirate #2, knocking him to the ground.

There is no more movement. The silence lasts only a few seconds before the party hears the roar of the flaming engine again.

He pauses for a second and shakes his head.
"No... it's not right. You shouldn't have been hurt, it would be better if it were me... maybe I just..."

"I am a worker. They don't bother to name us. My serial number is BA7347 dash zero six. No one's ever bothered to memorize that, either. They just call me worker, maybe number or vat boy or something like that."
He suddenly straightens his slouched, contemplative posture, turns and looks at the man in glasses, whom he assumes to be his rescuers' leader.
"You're probably wondering why I'm here. The crew here offered to help me. I needed to escape from RAM, I didn't care how. RAM was going to kill me because I'm... different. Workers aren't supposed to think, and I do. I can't help it."
He looks to the ground again, this time staring at his downed captain.
"RAM and their soldiers deserve to die for what they do. These pirates... they are not the same. They lied to me... I think they wanted to keep me as a slave. But it isn't right that they died, or that you risked your lives helping me. I'm sorry, I... acted rashly."

IC-Mike purses his lips at the situation, "Get Coop back onboard, Pete. We'll press off ASAP. He'll get help at the planet. Only a couple days off now."

He then looks up at the worker. "You didn't act rash at all. People aren't meant to be abused, different or not. I think its a good thing that we saved you." He starts collecting the weapons and handing them to the "worker". "Your id is BA73..what? Blah...I think we'll call you Bass. Sound good? If not, pick a name."

The ship gets to Riolda on full power. The fuel gauge starts might give Kent a scare, but his calculations were true. Riolda is a small asteroid compared to nearby Ceres. None of the members of the party have been here before.

Riolda is nothing more than a useless rock that has an attached spaceport. The port is Class B, interestingly enough. (That's pretty big for such a small asteroid.) There's not much radio chatter, though. In fact, it's a little bit too quiet.

The Roykan is in visual and radio range of Riolda. The fuel is very low. The engine is operating at full power, but it feels strained. The maneuvering thrusters are working fine. What're your actions?

However, there's no ground crew to greet you and no radio contact. From the bridge, Kent notices that nobody seems to care that they landed. This is a pretty backwards port.
