Pieter,

I collected the XXVC materials, too. I thought I had everything except the character record sheets until I heard of a "Technical Compendium." I've never seen it or any pictures, but some say it exists.

Have you played the computer games? My avatar is a screen capture of Carlton Turabian. He's actually white with grey hair in the books.

I'm not sure if I have the technical companion.
You might want to add to your list of items that Dragon magazine dedicated a cover to Buck Rogers once.
I'm at work now, so I'm not sure what number it is or exactly which books I have.
I've played the Sega Genesis Buck Rogers game, which I believe is called Countdown to Doomsday.

Right. I will have to look into getting that issue!

I have a copy of the Sega game in shrink wrap. I bought a Sega about a year ago to play it on, but I decided not to open the game. It's just sitting on the bookshelf as sort of a prize.

If you find out what issue number of Dragon that was, let me know please.

Anyway, are there any numbers on the Comic Modules like there are on the RPG books? I have the first Comic Module, and I didn't know there were so many!! Have you got the High Adventure Cliffhangers box set or just the Han module? I never played that because it doesn't look to be as much fun as XXVC.

hello all. Looking forward to playing this game. I've played both Countdown to Doomsday and Matrix Cubed and i've replayed them at least once..

I was tempted to use Buck's picture, but had to settle for more of an engineer type of picture..

How are we generating stats? I'm going to play a lunarian engineer. Are we going to have ship battles in the game?

Please see the game's web site for character creation details.

In short, we're creating 1st-level characters using the D20 conversion on the web site. The conversion PDF details money, stats, and other information.

We're using a point buy system to keep it fair for everybody.

I don't know if there will be ship battles; that is entirely up to the players. I will say this, though: A Buck Rogers campaign without space combat is like... a day without sunshine. Or something like that.

Maybe you could set up a thread just for rules suggestions, since this also seems to be a conversion project too.

Just to give you some perspective on the NEO struggle in the last few months, I'll recount a little history.

Buck Rogers was discovered floating through space in suspended animation a few months ago. Since then, he joined NEO and used his fame to rally NEO and even some other races.

Very recently (in the last few weeks), Buck led a NEO strike on Hauberk Station, an orbital space station that RAM used to conrtol Earth. It was a very advanced station.

Buck demonstrated that the Terrans' biggest strength is teamwork. They were able to capture Hauberk Station and rout RAM for the moment. This caught the eye of a some other offworld groups, some of whom have become NEO's allies.

Right now, the troops of NEO and the people of Earth are feeling at the top of their game.

I hoped that the first part of the game (what's happened so far) would happen much faster. It went my very slowly, and it's partly my fault.

The first part of the game was just to get the ball rolling. It was very linear, just to get the group together. However, we're now at a point where you guys can do anything you want. If you all choose to go a completely different direction, that's cool.

Keep in mind, though, that your actions will have serious consequences. If you choose to steal, you might be pursued. If you choose to fight, you might die. If you choose to sit and hide, then you risk boredom.

In short, the world is now yours.

For instance, right now you can either roleplay the scene in the bar, or you can simply say, "We hire somebody."

As a player I prefer to play things out, so that's why I give you all the opportunity to do so. I understand if you don't want to, so I'll give an open invitation for anything like this.

We obviously can't completely skip something like, "We raid the base and steal eveerything." Things that offer significantly less risk (like hiring a pilot) might be sped up.

The new character has ben added. He has a private thread, so no snooping yet! He'll join you very soon.

Now, Pete and Kent have made level two. This is mainly for roleplaying and for advancing the plot. The little bit of combat was handled in-character and was done well.

So, update to level two when you want to. Make sure you follow the D20 conversion rules for level advancement. It boils down to this: you can't be considered "Level 2" until you train any skills that require traning as per the rules. Thus, certain skills need training. (Hint: you're near Ceres, a large asteroid with a city.) Also, the ship combat that you took part in would count as training for any flying- or ranged-combat-related skills.

The engine going out again was purely random. I did not do that because I am forcing you down a certain plot path. Technically, Churchill's Jury Rig failed after a certain number of rounds. No, he needs to do a full repair, because the damage is worse than when the engine originally failed.

I like this game right now! There's an obvious short-term goal, a few optional short-term goals, two obvious long-term goals, and quite a few optional long-term goals. I have NO idea how you're going to get out of this situation, but there are many possibilities. No matter how you choose to react, I'm ready with the environment and possible reactions by NPCs and objects.

If you have any opinions of the game, good or bad, please let me know! If you can identify any of your characters' goals, list them out so I know where to concentrate my planning.

Do we roll HP or do we get a standard number based on Hit Dice?
The Rogue gets +2 on a bunch of skills (and so do must other classes) at first level, does he keep getting that bonus at every level?

Roll your hit dice in theis thread, but reroll ones.

You get an additional +2 when you assign 1st-level skill points. Those can be considered ranks in that skill. They are present from then on. However, you don't get an additional +2 at every level.

So aside from the normal jump in skills and hit dice at second level, do I get anything else? Sneak Attack? Dodge/Evasion? A free feat?
Otherwise, I'll take a level in something else, cuz from what I see there's very little benefit in being a second-level rogue.

Roll 1, 6 sided di(c)e 1 times. Add 1 to the result. Drop the lowest 0 di(c)e.
 1 + 1 = 2
Total = 2

Pete does have a point. I always thought that the main advantage that a rogue has is the choice of career skills. It's harder to get good at hiding as a medic, for instance.

Do you have any suggestions?

Why not make it something similar to the d20 SRD? Get a talent one level, then a feat the next.

Most other d20 games, they give you an incentive to stick with your class early on. (Rogues get evasion, bonus feats, etc) Perhaps that can be done here as well.

Let's say that the rogue gets what they get in D20, in addition to the +2 to career skills. Write that up and we'll look at it. If it's not completely overpowered, we'll use it.

How about the XXVc equivalent of Bardic Knowledge. Seems like a handy ability.
